On Saturday 3rd September the Cardiff Wales Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Mardi Gras main event will take place at Cooper’s Field, Cardiff. Tens of thousands of people are expected to attend the event, which aims to celebrate diversity and help to combat hate crime. The theme for this year’s event is ‘Be Yourself’ and everyone is welcome to come along and be themselves at this fun, free and fabulous event.
The event will feature a full line-up of local and national performers on the main stage, as well as the Admiral Cabaret Garden, showcasing some of the best cabaret acts around, and the Gaydar Dance Arena. As usual there will be a market area, fairground, bars and catering while 2011 also sees the development of the Youth Zone and Family Area which were launched in 2010.
Richard Newton, Chair of the Cardiff Mardi Gras Committee, said “To us, Mardi Gras is for everyone and this year we’re reaching out to more of the community than ever. We will be expanding the Youth Zone and Family Area at the main event and the Cardiff Mardi Gras Arts Festival will also showcase the best that the city’s arts scene has to offer. We’re excited about sharing the message to ‘Be Yourself’ with as many people as possible.”
The Cardiff Mardi Gras Arts Festival will this year feature a full week of events around the city from 27 August – 2 September. Starting with craft workshops, in association with the Makers Guild in Wales, the week also includes a cabaret evening, theatrical performances, Welsh-language music night, literature workshops and an after-party at Cardiff venue The Globe.
Cardiff Wales LGBT Mardi Gras is organised solely by a volunteer committee. To find out more about the planned events, or to get involved, please visit www.cardiffmardigras.co.uk.
