On Saturday, Member of Parliament for Norwich North, Chloe Smith, joined hundreds on the streets of Norwich for the 2011 Norwich Pride. The day began with a panel discussion, with guest speakers including longstanding gay-rights campaigner, Peter Tatchell. Chloe gave her support to the full reform of civil partnerships and strongly promoted LGBT rights in all areas of society, including public services, schools, sport and in tackling hate crime.
After addressing the crowd gathered in Chapelfield Gardens Chloe then joined the colourful march through the city centre.
“I was proud to see the LGBT community joined by so many from Norwich in supporting gay pride during a day of music, colour.I was delighted to spend time talking to so many people about their experiences of being gay, bisexual or transgender in our society today. While it’s clear that much progress has been made in recent years, there is still work to be done and in my capacity as local MP, I will continue to stand up for LGBT rights wherever I can.”
