Chris Morgan, the current Gay Games and World Powerlifting champion has this week set new British and World strength records in Deadlift.
The record attempts were hosted by Tiverton Weightlifting Club in England on Wednesday 8th May, where Chris made an “Unequipped” World Record Deadlift of 252.5 kilos at a bodyweight of 84.5 kilos.
The records were set under the rules of the International All Round Weightlifting Association (IAWA), who are an international strength association for lifetime drug free strongmen, strongwomen, powerlifters, weightlifters and strength athletes.
The previous IAWA world record in the 85 kilo’s Weight Class was 250.5 kilos, which had stood since 1997 which is before Chris started Powerlifting.
Speaking about the record attempt, Chris Said;
‘I’m really pleased to have set new British and World strength records in Unequipped Deadlift”.
‘This is the first time I’ve ever lifted a maximum attempt without the use of equipment such as a powerlifting supersuit. I’m very pleased with the result and hope to attempt more IAWA strength records in the near future’.
Chris is currently preparing for the World Deadlift Championships coming up in Antwerp, Belgium in June and European Deadlift Championships being held in Cherkassy, Ukraine in September.
