Doncaster Pride organisers have reportedly secured a £24,500 lottery grant to help fund the annual LGBT celebration parade.
The welcome news comes after last year the local Doncaster Council removed their support to the event and they feared for the Pride’s chance to go ahead.
Despite the money now on offer for the organisers being almost doubled from last years funds they are still having to bring in an admission fee to help sustain the Pride event for years to come.
Vice chairwoman Jenny Dewsnap told the Sheffield Star newspaper about the generous lottery grant:
“The grant is around £24,500 and will help with major core costs such as stage, lighting and sound equipment.
“It will also ensure the new venue is safe and secure for visitors and complies with all legislation on safety and security, first aid and stewarding as well as insurance costs.
“The move to the Racecourse for what is the 4th annual Doncaster Pride has brought with it some significant increases in costs and as a committee we want to look to a sustainable future with the security of the event being paramount.”
