Sheffield Pride is to take place on Saturday 16th July at Endcliffe Park

Sheffield Pride 2010 was the most successful Pride event to take place in Sheffield to date. South Yorkshire Police estimated a total of 8,000 individuals in attendance from around the country.

The preparations for the next Sheffield Pride are well underway to ensure Sheffield Pride 2011 continues to raise the bar for live music events in South Yorkshire. There’s going to be the normal areas you expect from Pride events, a main stage, community area, beer tent, and a dedicated spot for the children. But as ever there will be new and interesting things to look out for, so keep your eyes peeled. Sheffield Pride are actively seeking companies and individuals to sponsor these areas.

‘To have a date and venue confirmed for Sheffield Pride 2011 at this point is great. It’s the first step in the planning and preparation and means we can really start to focus our attentions on fundraising and sponsorship. We always need more people to help with Sheffield Pride and so if you’re interested please contact the Sheffield Pride committee on info@sheffieldpride.org.uk.’ commented Nik King, Chair of the Pride committee.

Sheffield Pride is one of the biggest live music events for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered community in South Yorkshire and prides itself on its inclusive, attitude-free environment designed to increase the visibility of Sheffield’s LGBT communities. It is important for a fun, non-political event to exist in order to draw attention to the importance of equality; and to highlight homophobia that people from marginalised LGBT communities may suffer. It is a time to celebrate similarities and differences as a community and thank all those individuals, businesses and organisations that support the LGBT community throughout the year.

Sheffield Pride has been nominated for the Best local event at the Exposed Awards which shows the amount of support that we have received throughout the year as a result of the success of Sheffield Pride 2011.

‘The committee would like to thank everyone who voted for Sheffield Pride at the exposed awards. It would be amazing to win but just being nominated reminds us why we work so hard throughout the year to create a Pride event because it makes an impact on people’s lives!’ commented David Baker, PR & Communications Officer.
