Welsh Rugby legend Gareth Thomas has thrown his support behind the GMFA / RVT Gay Sports Day. As the teams make their final preparations for event, which takes place this Bank Holiday Monday, Gareth has sent a message of support to all of the competitors and donated items to the Sports Day auction, which will be held straight after the event, in the Royal Vauxhall Tavern.
Gareth, who is one of the most successful out gay sportspeople in the world, has donated a Welsh training top, a pair of Welsh Rugby shorts and a Crusaders polo shirt, all worn and signed by the man himself.
Gareth said, “I am absolutely delighted to be supporting this year’s GMFA/RVT Gay Sports Day. It’s a fantastic community event with a long tradition of bringing smiles to people’s faces and a bit of sport to their lives. Best of luck to all the competitors and I would encourage everyone to donate generously to support the important work of GMFA and the other charities benefiting from the day. Watch out for an auction item donated by me and have a fantastic day.”
Other auction prizes include an Official Team GB Suitcase filled with 17 items of exclusive Team GB sportswear, given to members of the British Olympic Association (donated by a private donor), a pair of made to measure CHAPS from Expectations (value up to £400), VIP tickets to the MAD Trust’s West End Bares event and a professtional photoshoot by Pics By Gaz.
This year 18 teams will compete against each other for the title of ‘Top Fundraiser’, ‘Best Costume’ and ‘Event Winners’. The GMFA/RVT Sports Day begins at 2pm on August Bank Holiday Monday. The event will be held in Spring Gardens, which is located behind the Royal Vauxhall Tavern, and admission to the Sports Day is free. The auction begins after the event, where the highest bidder will win the auctioned items.
