Gaydio – the UK’s first FM radio station for lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people – has today released an online video in support of the ‘It Gets Better’ campaign.

‘It Gets Better’ (www.itgetsbetter.org) is an Internet-based project started last year by gay rights campaigner Dan Savage in response to several teen suicides in the United States as a result of homophobic bullying – some of the victims of these suicides were as young as 13 years old.

Celebrities including singer Lady Gaga, chat show host Ellen DeGeneres, Glee star Chris Colfer, and President Obama have joined the 322,847 people pledging their support to the campaign.

In the video released today, breakfast host Chris Holliday and presenter of the station’s award-winning afternoon show, Nicksy, join other familiar voices from Gaydio to tell their stories of growing up as lesbian, gay, and bisexual teenagers. They also offer messages of support to those who are being affected by homophobic bullying.

The video can be viewed at: www.gaydio.co.uk/itgetsbetter

The launch of the video coincides with the seventh International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHO) held annually on 17 May. Events are taking place across the UK and abroad to highlight the fight against homophobia and transphobia.

Homosexuality is still illegal in 76 countries around the world – seven of which, including Iran, Saudi Arabia, Sudan and Yemen, punish homosexual acts by death.

Gaydio broadcasts on 88.4FM across Greater Manchester, on mobile applications and online at www.gaydio.co.uk
