Tell us about your business?
H&D Diamonds is an online diamond jewellery shop that provides a direct contact to trade suppliers, a Bond Street jeweller and a team of designers. The online shop has high quality diamond jewellery as well as high-end Spanish and Italian jewellery designs.
Bespoke services are available from choosing a mount, a diamond and setting them together and up to creating a jewellery of your own imagination to the high standard of a Bond Street jeweller.
Each purchase is done to the client specification as the stock is virtual.
The website has a lot of information about diamonds and jewellery in the form of an educational page on the website, extensive blog and recently, a downloadable Engagement Ring Guide eBook .
What have been your greatest successes?
When people shop online they usually remember the ‘feel’ of the website, may be the logo or the name. I was surprised several times with people recognising me in public places as a result of my social media activity.
I am not sure if that is the greatest achievement but it is something I am very proud of. It helps with the website credibility which is extremely important for diamond jewellery. I was also a finalist at the Women in Business Award of Forward Ladies in the North West and created a bespoke wedding bank to the wife of a celebrity chef.
What has been your greatest challenge and how did you overcome it?
My greatest challenge was competing with international giants on the google ranking. There was no instant solution unless I was willing to depart from a most of my advertising budget. I chose the off and online networking as a way to get people to notice my website, my services and the beautiful diamond jewellery I sell.
What advice would you give to other small businesses in appealing to the LGBT+ community?
My advice for appealing to the LGBT+ community will be the same advice as I give in joining any other community or treating people in general:
– be respectful
– Share tips
– learn from anyone you meet
– be inspiring
and most important
– be yourself!
