The organisers of Manchester Pride 2011 have unveiled the ten-day programme of events that will take place as part of their 21st anniversary.
And with everything from art exhibitions and poetry evenings to outdoor pursuits and family fun days, it is expected the event will be Manchester’s biggest 21st birthday celebration.
Early Bird tickets for the festival’s four-day Big Weekend (26 – 29 August) go on sale on 1 May and cost £15. Information about the artists that will be performing on the Main Stage will be confirmed closer to the event. Past performers include: Kelis, Little Boots, Human League, Roisin Murphy and Gossip.
Jackie Crozier, festival director of Manchester Pride, said: “I can’t believe that Manchester Pride is 21 years old. It’s just amazing how far we’ve come over the years – what began as a bring and buy sale outside the Rembrandt pub on Canal Street is now one of the biggest LGBT festival’s in Europe. I’m very excited to see it all come together and showcase Manchester’s biggest 21st birthday celebration.”
Antony Cotton, Manchester Pride Patron said: “Manchester Pride is more than just a fun-filled weekend and is one of the only Pride events in the country to consistently raise large amounts of money for HIV and LGBT charities. I would like to remind all Pride goers that your money makes a huge difference to the local LGBT community. Have a great Pride.”
