Nigel Martin-Smith has announced that his nightclub Essential is to close with “immediate effect”.
The venue has been sold and will open later in the year as a brand new club. It has not been confirmed who has bought the club.
An official statement on the club’s website reads:
THE END OF AN ERA
Essential Nightclub is to close with immediate effect.
The venue will open later in the year as a brand new club.
Queer bar is unaffected by this move – watch out for exciting development there, like the launch of Mornin Glory Fridays.
THANK YOU for the past ten years – it’s been a blast!
Queer Bar, Martin-Smith’s other Manchester Gay Village venture, will be unaffected by the deal, and will be open business as usual.
The clubs closure has come as a major shock to Manchester’s LGBT community, and the gay clubbing community across the country. The club was famed for its tribal drum parade throughout the Gay Village every weekend and it’s fabulous hostess Chrissy Darling.
