On Sunday 6th Aug, comedian Phill Jupitus will launch Terrence Higgins Trust East’s second 10km walk to raise money for people living with HIV in Essex. The charity hopes to use the money raised to expand its existing services.
Registration begins at 10:30am with the walk starting at 11:30am from picturesque Leigh-on-Sea’s Beach. Participants will walk the gentle 5km to Southend-on-Sea, and lunch at a seaside café, before making their way back. Local performers, singers and musicians have been invited for a celebration on the beach at Old Leigh for the walkers return.
The walk is suitable for all and does not cross any major roads. Information, donation boxes and red ribbons will be available at 1km intervals along the route.
The event organisers are keen to encourage Londoners to make the trip to Southend. Glen Mendes, this years Event Coordinator at Terrence Higgins Trust in Southend said: “Last year’s beach walk was a great success and we’re hoping for this year to be even better. Our target is to raise over £4,000 and increase awareness of HIV and sexual health at the same time.”
