A commitment to marriage equality is pledged by the Scottish Green Party in its manifesto, published today for Scottish Parliament election on May 5.
“We will introduce legislation for equal partnership – opening marriage and civil partnership up to mixed-sex and same-sex couples, and allowing religious celebrants to conduct civil partnership,” a spokesperson told UK Gay News.
And the Greens will also look south from Holyrood to Westminster. “We’ll begin a dialogue with the UK Government about the need for cross-border recognition of relationships on the basis of equality.”
The manifesto also notes that it was the Greens who introduced legislation in Scotland to deal with homophobic and transphobic hate crime. It includes a pledge to prioritise the tackling of hate crime.
