London 2018, the organising committee for the Bid to host the Gay Games in the Olympic Park in 2018 has announced that it is setting up a series of regular sports team brunches. The brunches are open to any members of the various LGBT sports clubs in London (and their supporters). The first will be held on Sunday 29 April at the Good Ship pub in Kilburn from 11am to 1pm and further brunch dates will be announced at this time. https://www.thegoodship.co.uk/directions.shtml

Hot drinks can be bought in the pub, and London 2018 team members are also busily baking goodies to serve at the brunch, which can be bought for a nominal cover charge which will be donated to the London 2018 bid fund. London 2018 has successfully been garnering support from the LGBT sports clubs in London and is now working on preparing its bid book. The book needs to be complete within eight months for submission to the Federation of Gay Games, who will then judge all the entries and shortlist the three top cities for inspection. After inspection, they will put those cities out for a vote in a process similar to that which chooses and Olympic city.

Sports coordinator Alex Davis said: “London 2018 is made up of volunteers from many London LGBT and mixed sport clubs, and we need people from these to get involved to represent all 36 sports and disciplines. If you are a member of a sports club, come along to one of the brunches to help your sport at the Gay Games.”

Jonathan Harbourne is chair of the bid committee. He said: “The Gay Games also has a large cultural programme, and London 2018 is looking at building a creative team who can get involved with fundraising events, internet and advertising campaigns and arts and volunteer programmes.Anyone who is interested in helping with this can contact me at jonathan@london2018.info to find out what a difference they could make.

“We’re also looking to revamp our web site and design a back-end system for volunteers – if any individual or company can help, please get in touch with us via www.london2018.info.”
