  • I have been working with gender and sexual minority clients for over 30 years, most of that time in private practice, although I have also worked in Primary Care and had a decade working with students and staff at two Universities. I am BDSM/Kink Aware and familiar with a wide range of relationship models. I am BACP Senior Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist and was made a Fellow of BACP for my “outstanding contribution to the Field’. I am also a Senior Accredited Psychotherapist with the National Council of Psychotherapists. In addition to being a therapist, I also offer consultation, coaching and clinical supervision.

My style of therapy is relational and integrative. Whilst originally trained in Person-Centred Therapy, I also had five years supervision of my work with psychoanalytically trained therapists and so I’m familiar with that modality too. I am also trained in and able to offer a ‘Fast Trauma and Phobia Cure’ as well as Thought Field Therapy (TFT Dx & VT) – Callahan Techniques, which is an energy psychology and sometimes known as ‘the tapping cure’, which is highly effective and extremely rapid at resolving long standing difficulties including traumas, phobias, obsessions and compulsions and anxiety states.

I’m happy to work flexibly and offer a one-off consultation or longer term psychotherapy. I want to be as effective and helpful as I can and have you out of therapy and coping better in the world as soon as possible.

I’m aware that I may not be the ‘best fit’ for you and if at the end of the consultation, I don’t think I can help you, I will help you find someone who I think will be a better match. I know a great many therapists in London and am confident I can refer you to someone you you might fit better with

    Issues worked with:

Anxiety and depression, relationship issues, sex therapy and psychosexual difficulties; ‘sexual addiction’ sexual compulsivity, HIV/AIDS; anxiety, bereavement and loss, depression; disability sexuality; identity confusion and change; coming out; self-esteem and shame, trauma and post traumatic stress.

Male survivors of sexual abuse and sexual trauma (rape, assault etc)

Gender issues, including gender variant people and those people who maybe diagnosed with ‘Gender Dysphoria’ or people who are confused or unhappy with their gender congruence. I enjoy working with a broad spectrum of Transgender & Intersex people generally. I also work with trans* people post transition where their gender may not be the focus.

Chem Sex I am experienced at working with people who have run into problems with chem sex and who are wanting to make changes to either stop or reduce the amount of chem sex they’re having.

If you’re having difficulties with Tina, GBL, Meph and feeling you life has started to revolve around Chem Sex most weekends and you want to feel more in control of how you manage your use of sex and drugs, then I might be a good therapist to discuss things with. I take a non-judgmental approach to chems and as a sex therapist I have experience at working with people who have had concerns with their sexual performance and social anxiety – two features which seem to co-occur for many gay/bi men who run into problems.

I will work with you to put you back in control of your life and your relationship to chems and to the sex and relationships you’re having.

    Reparative Therapy Survivors
I am particularly interested in working with people who have been involved in conversion/reparative ‘therapy’ (Ex-Gay movement). I was on

National TV recently challenging Joseph Nicolosi of NARTH.

    BDSM/Kink and Fetish
I am a ‘Kink Aware’ therapist and happy to work with clients who either live a BDsM lifestyle or engage in SM, BDSM/Kink practices of all sexualities and gender identities and I supervise other therapists who do this work.

Location: I work generally see people in my office in Covent Garden WC2. However, if you are out of London, I can also offer Skype therapy.

    Professional background and training:
I’ve co-edited (with Charles Neal) three volumes of Pink Therapy textbooks, written many other articles, chapters etc.

I have developed and run various courses on gender and sexual diversity and therapy in the UK and abroad. I am regularly invited to speak about this subject at major conferences for Royal College of Psychiatrists, BACP, UKCP, Relate, BASRT (COSRT), Royal Society of Medicine and the British Psychological Society. I have also programmed conference input for British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and UK Council for Psychotherapy.

I have attended over a two hundred workshops and seminars on gender sexual minority therapy, well as acting as Programme Director for two international conferences on sexual minority therapy which Pink Therapy has run, and being course director for our Essentials in Sexual Minority Therapy programme and our one year Diploma in Gender and Sexual Diversity Therapy and our Alternative Sexualities programme.

I worked sessionally at PACE as an Initial Consultation Counsellor (for over two years, and ran a supervision group for 18 months). I served on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Gay and Lesbian Psychotherapy for several years and am currently on the Editorial Board for Psychology and Sexuality (Taylor & Francis).
